Testing of railway wheel tyres

The project deployed in 2009 for Polish metallurgical plant, Huta Bankowa, Dąbrowa Górnicza. It implements automatic inspection of newly produced railway wheel tyres of diverse assortment in the chain of production line.

Measurements are performed by a multichannel, multiplexed ultrasound flaw detector produced by Polish company, Ultramet. The software deals with hardware control, measurement acquisition, visualisation and analysis with automatic verdict elaboration. It also supports all the required calibration and maintenance procuders. The results of the measurments are stored in a central database of the department. The remote client application allows for off-line office measurement, inspection and reporting.

The equipment is augmented with the video camera watching for the inscribed tyre serial number. The Linux-based video server gathers the Ethernet carried video stream, performs search for the serial number area, enhances the image, and sends it to the measurement server for inclusion in measurement results.
