The project fulfilled for Aptech company (now part of Intertek). It consisted of developing along with the Ultramet company a portable ultrasound flaw detector with the customary software for internal oxide deposit measurements in industrial boiler tubes.
Early estimation of internal corrosion of boiler tubes (the wall width, the width of the oxide deposit) allows for an optimal plan of boiler tubes partial replacement, in order to ensure the safety as well as to minimize the maintenance costs.
The developed ultrasound flaw detector with software allows for the measurement of the ultrasound through-wall flight time with the accuracy of 5ns, and after the software postprocessing – with the accuracy of the 1ns order.
The software besides the full hardware control, performs the signal acquisition, visualisation and postprocessing. It supports also performing measurements along the predefined path, reflecting the statistical methodology of sample gathering.
